Location Carson, CA

Carson, located in the South Bay and Harbor regions of Los Angeles County, California, sits 13 miles (21 km) south of downtown Los Angeles and approximately 14 miles (23 km) from Los Angeles International Airport. Incorporated on February 20, 1968, Carson is renowned for its large population of Filipino-Americans and immigrant communities. As of the 2020 United States Census, it had a population of 95,558.

Historically, the area was inhabited by the Tongva people and later became part of the Rancho San Pedro Spanish land grant in 1784. The nearby Dominguez Rancho Adobe Museum commemorates the history of the Dominguez family, who were early grantees of this land. Carson was named after George Henry Carson, a ranch manager who married into the Dominguez family.

In 1921, oil was first drilled on Dominguez Hill, an area also significant for the Battle of Rancho Domínguez during the Mexican–American War in 1846. More recently, the city has dealt with environmental challenges, including a 2011 contamination cleanup by Shell and a 2021 air pollution incident from the Dominguez Channel.
